2. Power BI Adoption Review

Data#3’s Power BI Adoption Review is best suited to those organisations who have already deployed Power BI but are struggling to achieve widespread adoption and realise the true potential of their investment.

There are two goals behind the Power BI Adoption Review: to identify the current state of Power BI usage across your organisation and any current barriers to adoption you may be experiencing and to provide guidance on how you can improve overall Power BI Adoption.

3. Data Platform Architecture Review

Data#3’s Data Platform Architecture Review is best suited to those organisations with well-established Power BI usage and a complex data environment that may have outgrown their initial Power BI implementation strategy.

Most Power BI implementation takes place organically, which works initially but as your organisation grows and your reporting needs become more complex, the way that your data is ingested and visualised can often lead to data quality issues. This in turn makes it increasingly difficult to trust the insights your data have to offer, meaning that you’re no longer making those data-driven decisions that help you stand out from the crowd.

The Data Platform Architecture Review addresses these challenges through a series of workshops, a technical health check of your Power BI configuration and a review of your existing data environment, in order to help you create a consolidated data single-source-of-truth and enable self-service Power BI reporting capabilities.

As part of the review, our expert Data & Analytics team will also walk you through a report that provides tangible recommendations on how you can improve your data, analytics and reporting platform.

FAQ

How is Power BI licensed?

There are three common licensing plans for Power BI available:

  • Power BI Pro – a per user, per month subscription that provides core Power BI functionality. This is included with Microsoft 365 E5.
  • Power BI Premium per user – a per user, per month subscription that provides enhanced Power BI functionality such as paginated reports, larger data models, and more frequent data refreshes. It is available as an add-on to Microsoft 365 E5.
  • Power BI Premium Capacity – a per capacity, per month subscription that provides enhanced Power BI features for the whole organisation. Different capacities and autoscaling options are available depending on business requirements.

These Power BI pricing plans will meet the needs of most organisations. Additional licensing options include Power BI Embedded, designed to include reporting capabilities in your own customer facing applications, and Power BI Report Server, for those needing Power BI capabilities within their own data centre.

What's the difference between Power BI Pro and Power BI Premium?

Power BI Pro is an individual user license that allows access to all content and capabilities in the Power BI service. You can even share content and collaborate with other Pro users. Only Pro users can publish content to other workspaces, share dashboards, and subscribe to dashboards and reports.

Power BI Premium provides a capacity to deliver more consistent performance. It also supports larger data volumes in Power BI. For individual users, Premium enables widespread distribution of content by Pro users and it doesn’t require per user Pro licenses for recipients viewing the content. This means that business users can collaborate with colleagues and view and interact with dashboards, reports, and apps that have been shared with them.

What is a Power BI 'business user'?

The way you interact with Power BI will depend on your job role. As an end user or business user, you are the person who receives content (dashboards, reports, and apps) from colleagues. You work in the online or mobile version of Power BI, which is called the Power BI service, reviewing and interacting with this content, to make business decisions.

What is Power BI Desktop?

Power BI Desktop is a free application you can install right on your own computer. Power BI Desktop works cohesively with the Power BI service. Data scientists, report designers, admins, and developers work with Power BI Desktop to produce reports and make them available to the Power BI service business users, like you.

Does Power BI support mobile devices?

Yes. Power BI has native apps for Android phones and tablets, iOS devices, and Windows 10 devices.

 

As a 'business user', what do I need to use the Power BI service?

If your company has purchased and assigned Power BI licenses or a Premium capacity account, all you’ll need is a Web browser and credentials. To log in, you’ll use your work email address and a password (the same credentials you use to sign into Microsoft 365).

 

Which browsers does Power BI support?

Power BI is designed to work with any of the supported modern browsers mentioned below. However, performance differs depending on your choice of a browser. If you’re using Internet Explorer in particular, which is no longer supported by Power BI, you may encounter worse performance. We strongly recommend a supported modern browser, like Microsoft Edge. If you still encounter unacceptable performance, test other supported modern browsers to see if they provide better results for your Power BI solution. Power BI supports these browsers on all platforms where they’re available:

  • Microsoft Edge Chromium.
  • Chrome desktop latest version.
  • Safari Mac latest version.
  • Firefox desktop latest version. Firefox may change the fonts used in Power BI.

* Power BI doesn’t run in any browsers in iOS10 or previous versions.
